Founded   1958  by  M. M. Zangeneh, High Voltage Lab firstly equipped with a 160 kV, 40 mA

high voltage test transformer  and point, plane and sphere electrodes and devices to show the barrier effect in point-plane configuration.  Later a Universal Bridge for Capacitance and Tangent Delta measurement with 200kV standard capacitor was added by Dr. M. Gh. Mohammadi, who was 14 years Prof. and director of the High Voltage Laboratory.
In 1975, First extension, done by A.M. Miri and M.Gh. Mohammadi, comprised a 500 kV impulse generator with cathode ray impulse oscilloscope and 100 kV, 0.1 A test transformer with measuring devices as well as low voltage repeating impulse generator. The impulse generators were installed in campus 1 and the test transformer in campus 2 of the Faculty of Engineering (Institute of Electrical Engineering).

In 1976, Dr. Mohammadi retired and Dr. Mohseni began as new lecturer and director of the High Voltage Lab.
Second extension began in 1977 when 2 sets of 100 kV construction kits installed and continued in 1978 when Schering Bridge with temperature regulated three electrode capacitors for measurement of C, R and Tangent Delta of solid and fluid insulting materials added. These equipments were installed in campus 2.

Third Extension was further 2 sets of 100 kV construction kits were contributed by the Iranian Ministry of Oil in 1993.

In 1997, 1600 sqm building containing 18x12x13 m hall and 18×4 m control room built in campus 2.It was contributed by TAVANIR (Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company).Various instruments contributed by Parsian Company Tehran as well. So, all equipments transported to the new building.
In 2001, Design and manufacturing of a test transformer 250 kV, 3 A was done for pollution test in Iran Transfo factory in Zanjan.  All materials, tools and man work contributed by Iran Transfo.  Design and supervision to manufacturing was done by H. Mohseni and staff of the High Voltage Lab, supported by TAVANIR.
18 steps 1800 kV, 90 kJ Impulse generator installed in 2002.The impulse generator equipped with calibration instruments for AC, DC, lightning and switching surge voltage and time.
In 2003, A 3 steps 800 kV, 2 A cascade transformers with compensation reactors designed and manufactured in Iran Transfo factory in Zanjan. All materials, tools and man work contributed by Iran Transfo. Design and supervision to manufacturing was done by H. Mohseni and staff of the High Voltage Lab, supported by TAVANIR.
