With different kinds of devices, the lighting laboratory serves as the chief reference laboratory in Iran. The main works of the laboratory are the measurement of the lighting output and the lighting pattern of the luminaires manufactured by industries and giving certificates to them. Furthermore, the staff of the laboratory usually goes into the field to measure the lighting characteristics of the roads and tunnels. This laboratory also has the duty of calibrating the other lighting measuring devices in Iran.
An integrating sphere with 3 m diameter, a robotic system to measure the lighting pattern with the near field method (near field goniophotometer), a student-made robotic system for measuring the lighting pattern with the far field method (far field goniophotometer) , equipments to measure color characteristics, UV radiation, electrical parameters, and different cameras for detecting the road luminance are the most important apparatuses in this laboratory .
In addition to industrial tests, a course is held for undergraduate students about lighting design and a laboratory course to teach them how to measure different characteristics of luminaires.
